Fake passport generated by ChatGPT bypasses security
- Reported on April 04, 2025, an experiment has shown how a forged passport, generated with ChatGPT-4o, successfully passed a digital identity verification. Borys Musielak, a technology entrepreneur, created the forged document in minutes and shared it on LinkedIn. The passport appeared to be virtually identical to a real one, which called into question the reliability of traditional KYC (Know Your Customer) procedures. This demonstrates how quickly and easily fakes can now be created using generative AI, which makes existing identity verification systems vulnerable to attack. While the forged passport probably wouldn't hold up to a thorough check, it was enough to bypass basic KYC procedures from some financial platforms. Experts therefore recommend the wider implementation of technologies for hardware-level verification, such as electronic identity documents (eID).
